prior to setting up the south african export development fund and export venture capital corporation (pty) ltd, pieter headed up specialised finance at absa corporate and merchant bank, which gave him responsibility for eight divisions namely: transaction management, legal, preference shares, structured finance, commodity and working capital, project and export finance, r&d and international trade finance. specialized finance - under pieter’s management - contributed a large proportion of absa corporate and merchant bank’s bottom line.

pieter has more than 13 years experience in the investment banking, vc and specialised finance arena and has been involved in numerous projects in export finance, capital raising and structured finance transactions across the globe. he has dealt with many sub-saharan companies involved in a cross section of industries from mining to marine engines. pieter has the ability to identify deals and structure them to maximize returns. he holds board positions in six of our portfolio companies.
